North Township Parents As Teachers Program

BACKGROUND:

Parents as Teachers (PAT) of Lake County, Inc. was originally founded through a partnership with the City of Hammond, Saint Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers (SMMHC), and the School City of Hammond. Since its inception, the PAT program has grown quickly throughout Lake County

In April 2007, with the support of Trustee Frank J. Mrvan and the North Township Trustee (NTT) Board of Directors, a Parent Educator (PE) was hired to serve families living in North Township communities of East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Munster, and Whiting.

Any family with children prenatal to kindergarten entry who seeks services/assistance with North Township Trustee is eligible for the NTT Parents as Teachers program at no charge to participants.

North Township Trustee also generously donates the Wicker Park Club House to host monthly playgroups.

Services provided by NTT PAT includes:

  • Monthly Personal Home Visits
  • Monthly Playgroups
  • Developmental Screenings
  • Resource Networking
