East Chicago Parents As Teachers Program

BACKGROUND:

Parents as Teachers (PAT) of Lake County, Inc. was originally founded through a partnership with the City of Hammond, Saint Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers (SMMHC), and the School City of Hammond. Since its inception, the PAT program has grown quickly throughout Lake County.

In May of 2007, with the support of the United Neighborhood Organization and BP Foundation, a Bi-lingual Parent Educator (PE) was hired to serve families in the East Chicago community.
Utilizing the award-winning Parents as Teachers Born to Learn curriculum, the program is free to all East Chicago residents with children prenatal to kindergarten entry and is available in English or Spanish.
